I thought it would be fitting to use the famous VICE header to report the news.

A Guatemalan judge has ruled that John McAfee was detained illegally. He will be released from detention at the central immigration center in Guatemala City tomorrow morning. It is also believed he will be allowed to return to the USA.

The Telegraph reports John’s release and quotes his attorney Telésforo Guerra …

“It’s best that McAfee go to the United States, that’s definitely the country where he will be safest,” Mr Guerra said. “In Guatemala, he runs the risk that anything could happen to him.”

Who didn’t see this TrainWreck coming?

I have been writing for a while about how it looked like VICE Magazine threw John under the bus trying to catch the Big Story. Now John is talking about lawsuits over leaking the EXIF data that led to his capture. Yesterday we had VICE making their statement trying to distance themselves a bit from the photo leak … today, John was posting about how honest VICE was going to be when they release the story … everything was coming together nicely.

BOOM … John removes the post about VICE Magazine releasing the story, and replaces it with McAfee Terminates Relationship with Vice Magazine.

BREAKING – Sky News is reporting that John could be released as early as today.

John’s Blog has just posted An Open Letter to the Family and Friends of Mr. Faull.

We might as well call this the VICE post I was going to do … it seems to have started out the way I was thinking. More from VICE will be posted soon.

They had been hyping this video conference for a while on whoismcafee. The posts and comments have all been removed from John’s blog, and the original raw video from urecommendmedia has also now been removed.

Who knows what is going on with the videos? … they are now posting some of the footage to John’s blog … how long they will be there is anyone’s guess.

On the longer video that has since been removed, John declares his innocence in the murder of Gregory Faull and describes how the Government and the GSU are out to get him. He says that his life is in grave danger and he will be violently executed if he is returned to Belize. Mr. McAfee also sends an open invitation to Prime Minister Barrow, asking to meet with him to discuss their indifferences and mentions that maybe Barrow does not know how corrupt his country is.

Even though John had wrote on his blog that Belize was his home and he would not leave, he wrote that he would fight corruption not just for himself but for all the people of Belize. That does not seem to be true after John now says in the video his intention was to leave Belize all along and try to make it back to the USA. He knows the only way he could go back to Belize, is if the whole government was completely overhauled … and that is not likely to happen any time soon.

He says they cannot move him for at least 30 days and would prefer they deport him to either the USA or the UK … anywhere but Belize.

The New York Times is running an article written by, who else? … none other than Jeff Wise, titled In Pursuit of McAfee, Media Are Part of Story.

Well, it looks like VICE Magazine got the Big Story after all …

Two days ago I posted the question did VICE.com setup John McAfee to be caught? The reason I have this thinking is, both CNN and VICE are not chasing the story of corruption in Belize, they are gunning for the Big Story of John’s capture on film. The Belize corruption story is a long drawn out procedure that has no interest to their target audience. Short, big breaking stories like John McAfee or stints in Syria are the blockbuster stuff main stream media likes to report on. John McAfee secretly making it into Guatemala safely, applying for asylum, and going on with his life is no story.

Leaking the EXIF data by a firm like VICE Magazine just does not make sense to me. Robert King is a world class journalist that has earned my respect, however to let that data be uploaded online looks very suspect as it would not just lead to the big story, but it leads to the only story worth going to Guatemala for … the arrest live on film.

I have also noticed the pissy attitude Martin Savidge of CNN seems to be taking about John’s story now. He is chirping about his lost iPhone and laptop, when in reality, he was probably trying to do the same thing as VICE did and use the lost iPhone as the excuse for leaking John’s location. I bet his crew was also prepared to film an arrest.

The story for MSM is not Mr. Faull’s death or about the corruption in Belize … the corruption story has been going on for many years and nobody is touching it.

I haven’t posted much of Vice’s stuff yet because I am waiting to see how they will write the story. However, here is the VICE footage of John McAfee being arrested (probably not as dramatic as they had hoped for) … later I might follow up with a post about VICE Magazine and maybe my opinion will change, however … my guess is they have already said That’s a Wrap and moved on.

And from John’s blog, as strange as it sounds … John McAfee is Blogging from Jail.

UPDATE – Chad  just posted this to John’s blog … Urgent from John.

I am not sure why Jeff Wise has been hell bent on destroying John McAfee … today on his blog the heading reads John McAfee, Captured, Faces Life in Belize Prison.

and Wired.com is running their latest story with the heading … How Trusting in Vice Led to John McAfee’s Downfall.

I have to congratulate John for making it safely out of Belize and into Guatemala. Kudos for meeting up with a big gun like Telésforo Guerra … this guy is the real deal. He is the Lawyer who represented former Guatemalan President Alfonso Portillo in a huge embezzlement case where Portillo and two of his aides were charged with corruption and the embezzlement of $15 million in government funds. … and go figure, he’s the former Attorney General of Guatemala that just happens to be Sam’s uncle … giddy up Cowboys!

I was watching the latest broadcast from Martin Savidge on CNN. He was crying about how his laptop and iPhone were stolen, when really I think he was upset that he never broke the story of John’s capture. I wonder if he was leaking GPS data like VICE did. Anyhow CNN is reporting that John’s lawyer is planning to file a formal request for asylum with Guatemalan officials Wednesday.

Well, unless they sent Bart and Homer Simpson along to manage the security of John’s whereabouts, I can’t help but wonder, did VICE Magazine deliberately release the EXIF data hoping to catch the big story of John’s capture? One thing that jumped out from their story yesterday with the EXIF data on the photo was when they wrote “Rocco and Robert will continue to follow John until the conclusion of his journey” – Was the conclusion supposed to be John’s capture and the EXIF data leak part of the sequence? We are still waiting to hear officially what John’s interview with VICE editor-in-chief Rocco Castoro is going to be like. These guys from VICE.com are supposed to be a big league website, however, I have to question their choice of heading to break the story, We are with John McAfee right now, Suckers … it sounds a bit immature, and their earlier article on John is also not very flattering. Either they tried to get John caught by purposely releasing the EXIF or they were extremely lucky not to have been killed in Syria while leaving a trail of data across an active war zone. For now it seems they get a pass on this blunder (what choice did John have after the leak), but seriously … how does a magazine like VICE upload that data?

Yesterday John was apologizing on his blog to VICE Magazine for manipulating the EXIF data on the story photo. I am not really sure what is going on here because they have REMOVED the whole apology post and hundreds of comments that were posted to his blog. He has now admitted the real EXIF data was released by an unseasoned technician at VICE. Today he is now posting on his blog that he and Sam are indeed in Guatemala. I am sure John has since left the area of Rio Dulce revealed on the EXIF data. However, he should also ditch these dudes from VICE … they are going to get him killed … I hope John sees what I see in this VICE Job … forgetting to remove that EXIF data is not likely, because even Homer Simpson would have removed it.

Monday Dec. 3 – The twin McAfee haters Gizmodo.com and Wired.com are now reporting that VICE left data on the photo and are giddy like school kids, hoping John gets caught. … going with my hunch again … I’m not buying into any of this shit.

Today Tues. Dec. 4, 2012 – VICE Magazine is reporting that John has hired top notch Guatemalan lawyer and former Attorney General Telésforo Guerra. This man has an excellent reputation and just happens to be Sam’s uncle. With that being said … I still think it is a good idea for John to go even deeper into hiding and lose all these media hounds that are only looking to break the story of John McAfee’s capture.

Well after a tough 3 weeks, things are looking better for John McAfee … below is a screen shot from his latest post The New Fight. … good luck John and get some rest.
